May I again ask space to answer a letter in your issue of May 19? According to the Scriptures, God is not the author of evil, for in Habakkuk we read, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity;" and as, according to the first chapter of Genesis, man is made in the image and likeness of God and therefore must be like the original, he also is "of purer eyes than to behold evil." Therefore, Christian Science says that it is impossible for spiritual man to be the author and upholder of the dream of material existence.

The only admission about mortal mind, or the carnal mind, in Christian Science, is that it is a lie and so is not real; and through their efforts to "pray without ceasing" Christian Scientists are striving to overcome or disprove evil in all its forms.

Mary Baker Eddy, in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 45), has answered the following question in part as stated: "If God made all that was made, and it was good, where did evil originate? It never originated or existed as an entity. It is but a false belief; even the belief that God is not what the Scriptures imply Him to be, All-in-all, but that there is an opposite intelligence or mind termed evil."
