When I was a child, I had a disease of the bone which caused much suffering and many sleepless nights for me and for my mother, who would sit up for hours rubbing my legs. I was treated by many physicians, but at the age of fifteen or sixteen I was still in a very sad condition. At this time I decided to try Christian Science. I knew nothing about it except that nothing was required in a physical way; so I called on a loving Christian Scientist who lived in the neighborhood and asked her if she thought Christian Science could help me. Her healing answer was, "I know it can." And it did! After talking with her for two hours I went home healed. Since that day, now many years ago, I have never suffered with that trouble, nor have I taken medicine of any kind. My limbs are perfectly straight now, and no one knows I had been crippled unless I speak of it.
The next few years after this first healing were filled with physical activities, which I had not been able to indulge in before, and I am sorry to say I paid very little attention to Christian Science, except to call for and receive instantaneous help when any difficulty arose.
In the fall of 1921 I left my home and went to a distant city, to work as I thought, but when I arrived I found no job. I realized then that I needed something more to depend on than myself, so I started reading the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly daily and attending the Sunday morning services regularly.
