"Grace for to-day"*

God give me grace to do some act of worth
Or kindness, daily, for a fellow man,
To demonstrate that I have understood
Christ's plea for universal brotherhood;
Else it is proved I follow not the plan
The Master taught and lived while here on earth.

The gift of grace! Dear God, I ask today
The vision clear of faith, to recognize
And use my opportunities, nor fail
To help the lame to walk, to lift the veil
Of doubt from off some weary pilgrim's eyes,
That they be glad that I have passed this way.

To clasp a groping hand in mine and lead
A stumbling foot the narrow way to find;
The captive of some mortal sense to free,
And answer with the truth that captive's plea
For healing, and his wounds with love to bind;
Thy grace, dear God, supplieth every need!
