I have learned so many beautiful things in Christian Science...

I have learned so many beautiful things in Christian Science that I find it difficult to put into words or adequately to express the gratitude I feel for the blessings which have come to me. A friend first brought me literature when my dear husband passed on. I had a deep religious faith, and had proved many times God's care and loving-kindness; yet this passing on of my husband had so shaken me that the loneliness and separation were seemingly breaking me up. This friend said to me, "Whenever you are in the city [Sydney] and want quiet and rest, go into our Reading Room." The next time I went to the city I went into the Reading Room and read and rested; when out in the street I found I had left a wrap, so returned for it. I had to speak to the librarian, and she answered me so lovingly that the flood gates were opened and I received comfort; and indeed what she said was as "balm in Gilead" to me. The textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was lent to me. I felt I had a treasure, and retired early to rest and read. From the very beginning, healing was manifested. Next morning I was so happy it was as thought I was newborn, and the light poured upon me. My first physical healing was of constipation and piles. To me this meant a great deal. This instantaneous healing added to my conviction of the scientific healing of Truth as given in the Christian Science textbook.

The shadows often try to dim this beautiful truth, but no material thinking can hide it for long, once the door has been opened. I purchased Mrs. Eddy's works and carefully studied them, very soon realizing that this great gift must be shared, and that if we receive we must give. I found out the nearest church, but it seemed difficult to get to, as I had to take two train journeys. I remarked about this to one of the members and found that the larger portion of them took much longer and more difficult journeys to reach church on Sunday mornings. When the time came that it seemed best to return to England from Australia, I prayed earnestly to be led in the right way. I was helped by a Christian Science practitioner, and the way was made plain and many business difficulties that had seemed insurmountable smoothed out.

My gratitude for Christian Science and all its activities is unbounded. I honor and revere Mrs. Eddy, and wonder always at the courage and devotion that were shown in her life and very precious writings. I am indeed grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society, and for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Hannah Bloomfield, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.
