A letter on the editorial page of your paper of today would give the erroneous impression that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, was not in favor of prohibition.

There is ample proof that Mrs. Eddy was always on the side of any measure which had for its purpose the ultimate overcoming of anything that tends to produce sin, disease, and death.

The attitude of Christian Scientists on prohibition is very clearly set forth by Mrs. Eddy on pages 288 and 289 of "Miscellaneous Writings," where she says: "Whatever intoxicates a man, stultifies and causes him to degenerate physically and morally. Strong drink is unquestionably an evil, and evil cannot be used temperately: its slightest use is abuse; hence the only temperance is total abstinence."
