Christian Science was presented to me in the autumn of...
Christian Science was presented to me in the autumn of 1892 at Eastbourne, England, by a dear friend who had just returned from America. At that time there was very little of this great truth in England and none in Wales. I must have been ready to receive it, for on being given the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I read far into the night, and desired only to get through it in order to send it to my father, who was one of the dignitaries of the Church of England in Wales. Before returning home, my friend took me to a private meeting in London, where about a dozen ladies met together. From that time all the help I had was from New York, as my friend had returned to America. However, I was well supplied with literature, but owing to great antagonism, much persecution attended me in my endeavors to progress. Nevertheless, I found means to divulge my great secret to many people in Wales.
Not many years ago I was laid low with what the doctors called double pneumonia with complications, from which they said there was no possible recovery; but I was knowing that God had never made a sick man, so there was only the good man. I then discovered I was holding a resentful thought. I immediately broke that belief, and was healed instantaneously to the great astonishment of the members of my family, who had really been preparing for my burial. This healing was a great revelation to the inhabitants of the village where I had been living so many years, and as a consequence many of them today are firm believers in Truth.
No words of mine are adequate to convey my gratitude for this wonderful healing. It has given me the power to speak the Word definitely when called upon to help. I am also very grateful for class instruction, especially as I have lived nearly the whole of the time far away from the activities of a Christian Science church. Also Mrs. Eddy's other works and the periodicals are invaluable. My one desire is to reach a higher level of thought, and so be worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."—(Miss) FRANCES M. WILLIAMS, Carmarthen, South Wales.
