Loving One Another

TRIPPING joyously along a London street one lovely summer's day went a daintily clad little maiden of four years of age. Her steps betrayed naught of weariness; she bore herself with an air of sweet simplicity, and her face was radiant with happiness, health, and purity.

Calling out, "Oh! there's my friend," she darted off, and a few moments later was gladdening the heart of a busy road sweeper with her prattle. Farther down the road she espied another friend—this time a taxi man—who would always leave his fellow workers to greet this little child, and to listen to her with evident delight, then stand waving his hand until she was out of sight.

Reaching crossroads where there appeared to be a continuous stream of traffic, her nurse observed a tot, perhaps two and a half years old, evidently desiring to cross the road. She pointed out to her charge that it would be nice for them to help the baby over; and without a moment's hesitation, two little arms were thrown around the baby's neck, and a voice said tenderly: "Where is your mummy, dear? Show us where you live and we will take you home." Then she led the little one home, and afterwards, looking up into her nurse's face, said, "Wasn't it lovely to help that baby girl!"
