In a letter published in your issue of October 18, a clergyman respectfully takes exception to a statement made by a Christian Science lecturer.

The lecturer was correctly quoted in your issue of October 10, as cited by this clergyman. That is, he stated that, whereas St. Paul said that "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God" and Jesus said that "the flesh profiteth nothing," one is forced to the conclusion that anything having to do with the flesh or matter does not represent God or God's kingdom. The clergyman maintains that this conclusion is "palpably contrary to the teaching of the Bible;" but certainly this conclusion follows logically from the statements of St. Paul and Jesus.

Our critic turns to the book of Genesis in support of his contention. And yet the book of Genesis supports the statements of St. Paul and Jesus, for therein we are told that God created man in His own image and likeness. We can agree, I believe, that God, the only creator, who according to the Bible is Spirit, is not flesh or matter, and that therefore the real man—the man made in God's image and likeness—is not material, but is spiritual.
