With a deep sense of gratitude I should like to tell of some of the many blessings Christian Science has brought into my life. Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 126), "No reproof is so potent as the silent lesson of a good example." A little understanding of Christian Science so enabled one in my home to bear witness to the truth of this statement that although I was what could be described as a moral wreck "the silent lesson" of this one's example led me "into the land of Christian Science, where fetters fall and the rights of man are fully known and acknowledged" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, pp. 226, 227).

After many years of suffering and the constant fear of passing on, my wife was healed of heart trouble. Constipation, indigestion, lung trouble, St. Vitus's dance, and concussion brought about by a bad fall, have also been healed. For many years I had been subject to severe attacks of biliousness, but by holding firmly to the truth of our Leader's words, "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God" (ibid., p. 228), I have been completely healed. Christian Science has also healed me of the desire for strong drink, of the tobacco habit, gambling, and profanity; and other undesirable traits of character have been eliminated.

Two of our girls awakened one night with a condition which seemed to be of a very disturbing character. For several hours we worked in Christian Science against error in the form of sickness, diarrhea, pains in the head and stomach, and so forth. Through our understanding of Christian Science, and by holding to the truth that "there is no pain in Truth, and no truth in pain" (ibid., p. 113), we overcame the condition, so that one of the girls went to school the next day healed. In the case of the other child, for about five days she could neither stand nor walk. On the fifth day, after reading to her the account of how Peter and John healed the lame man "at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful," I took up a Christian Science Journal, and my attention was attracted to a poem entitled "Assurance." This I read aloud:
