For the revelation of Truth and the spiritual joy which...
For the revelation of Truth and the spiritual joy which were the result of my first healing in Christian Science I shall never cease to be grateful. After being told by two physicians that I should never be well unless a surgical operation was performed, I reluctantly consented and arrangements were made for me to be at the hospital at nine o'clock the following morning.
On my way home that day I passed a Christian Science church and its sign attracted my attention. On reaching home I telephoned to the Reading Room and secured the names of several practitioners. I made my selection, asked for an appointment, and went to the practitioner's home that evening. Words can never express the joy and light which came to me through her reading from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through my first treatment. I rode on a trolley car to the practitioner's home, being unable to walk the distance, but afterwards I walked more than half a mile with comfort and joy. The physician was immediately called and the hospital engagement canceled. Science and Health was procured in a few days, and church services have been regularly attended ever since.
My first visit to a practitioner was on November 4, 1926. Prior to that I was able to work only a few hours in the afternoon in a business office. In two weeks or less I secured a new position which meant long hours and much hard work, but this was all most pleasant and the days full of happiness.
