It is with a heart full of gratitude that I desire to testify to the healing power of Christian Science. I know Christian Science does heal when properly applied, as I have proved it many times during the past twenty-one years. I have had many physical healings, but at this time I should like to express my gratitude for the healing of many bad habits.
My first healing was of the desire for liquor, which left me when I first became interested in Christian Science. About eight years ago the tea and coffee habits were destroyed by the loving help of a practitioner. But the one habit to which I had been in bondage since childhood was that of smoking. I was an inveterate smoker—had to have my cigar the first thing in the morning and one in my mouth all day long. The only time I was not smoking was when I was eating, or in a place where I could not smoke. I could not buy strong enough cigars, so for many years I had them made specially for me. This habit kept me from many Christian Science activities which I always desired to enter into. I had tried human will-power, and had had help many times from practitioners, but to no avail.
During the last few years of this experience I felt that if I could only visit The Christian Science Benevolent Association at Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where I could not smoke, it would help me to make my demonstration. Therefore I applied for admission. In their loving reply they stated that I would be required to stop smoking not only while there but also some time before I started for the Sanatorium. When this letter arrived and my wife telephoned the news to me, I threw away the cigar I had in my mouth and took my stand. With the loving help of a practitioner I was healed. I made my trip to the Benevolent Association, which is certainly a haven of rest, and spent a week there. Since then, I have had the privilege of stopping several times at the Sanatorium in San Franciso, California, for rest and study. What a wonderful privilege this is for anyone who desires to get away from a world of materiality and be surrounded by divine Love, which is expressed by all those associated with the Sanatoriums!
