I am grateful for the blessings received through a study...
I am grateful for the blessings received through a study of Christian Science. Before learning of this blessed truth, strength and peace seemed to be gone; weakness, unrest, despondency, and lack were increasingly manifested, and I knew not where to turn, for long periods of strict dieting and the taking of many kinds of tonic had given no relief from a condition pronounced as incurable anaemia. Three changes of climate brought only temporary relief.
After about twenty years of this, hope gave way to despair. "In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears." On hearing of my fourth contemplated change of climate a kind friend lovingly offered me some copies of The Christian Science Journal and a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
I was weak at this time that I could do little but sit in a chair. However, I commenced to read the book and was pleased with its precepts, which I found to be in accord with what had long been seeking to take form in my thought but for lack of a "key" were only hazy ideas. I had no idea that the reading of this book would heal sickness, so I put it aside and continued preparations for going away; but I took several of the Journals with me and read them in every spare moment, and the more I read the more I became convinced that I had found the "pearl of great price."
