Appreciation and Giving
"OH that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" This appeal to awaken men to a greater appreciation of God's innumerable promises of good for His children is needed today as much as it was centuries ago. We need ever to be more awake to recognize and to express our thankfulness for God's manifold gifts. Are we fully alert to the advantages we have, as daily we are furnished with evidences of God's goodness and of "his wonderful works to the children of men"? Do we continually praise Him "who daily loadeth us with benefits"? Should there not arise in our hearts more fervent praise for our Leader's discovery of Christian Science and for the development and establishment under her inspired direction of The Mother Church organization, including The Christian Science Publishing Society? What protection is therein provided from any clouded presentation or adulteration of the pure revelation of the truth as given to us by Mary Baker Eddy!
Gratitude for the authorized Christian Science literature rightly begins with gratitude to our Leader, who lived so close to God that through her pure spiritual vision she discerned and amply provided for the needs of mankind. She did not stop after receiving the divine revelation which resulted in her own healing, and which, later, inspired the writing of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the establishing of The Mother Church and its branches. She continued listening for God's voice to direct her and to make plain the way of enlightenment and demonstration until, step by step, the plan unfolded for the founding of each of our beloved periodicals, including the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons, and for the providing of a place in which to print them — The Christian Science Publishing House. This building signifies far more than merely a material structure, for no walls can confine or limit the boundless good these messengers are accomplishing.
The multitudinous steps required for the production and distribution of our periodicals are all effectually helping to fulfill the one harmonious purpose to enlighten and bless mankind. "Love's work and Love must fit." Is it not under the direction and protection of divine Love that our periodicals go out on their world-mission, well-equipped servants of usefulness? How precious it is to think in terms of gratitude for the spiritual activity expressed in the work done by our Christian Science Publishing Society! Truly it is ours, belonging to all the members of The Mother Church and its branches, and workers throughout the Field who lovingly and faithfully are aiding, by contributing their financial and prayerful support, in the new building activity! Although Boston is the visible center of this systematized activity, its circumference encircles the globe, and it is drawing worldwide loyal support.
