Jersey Journal
It is true great numbers of people in nearly every part of the world are turning to Christian Science and are being healed through its practice, which consists solely of reliance on prayer, or spiritual communion with God, to heal the sick and reform the sinner.
For one to intimate that the practice of this religion blots out sickness and sorrow, in fact all the ills that "flesh is heir to," by denial, through the activity of the so-called mortal or carnal mind, which Paul states is "enmity against God," and to affirm that it is sacrilegious and blasphemous for Christian Scientists to eradicate sin, sickness, and inharmonious conditions from human consciousness, when Christ Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover," would indicate almost an entire lack of understanding of the theology of Christian Science as discovered and founded by Mary Baker Eddy.
Properly to understand the doctrine of this religion, which is based solely upon the Scriptures, including the teachings of the master Metaphysician, Christ Jesus, one must realize that the divinely fundamental basis upon which Christ's Christianity is established is the First Commandment: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Obedience to the First Commandment of the Hebrew Decalogue enabled Moses, Elijah, and Elisha, and other inspired prophets, to triumph over a material sense of things and prove the power and presence of God by performing wonders, generally described as miracles.
