About the year 1915, a friend lovingly brought Christian Science to my attention, the thought being that a dear member of my family might thereby seek its healing benefits.

Going to the Reading Room in the city where I was then living, I borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but finally returned it with the belief that I could never accept or recommend for another's use anything so opposite to everything I had been taught.

Very soon after this I was asked if I believed that Christian Science could heal hardening of the arteries. I found myself instantly answering, "Of course I do; God can heal any disease." Immediately there was a great stir within me, and I realized that I had retained in consciousness that first wonderful statement our Leader has given us in the chapter on Prayer (Science and Health, p. 1): "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,— a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." I knew then that the seed of Truth was sown in my consciousness; so I went again, with such a changed thought, to borrow the textbook, and was lovingly led to the use of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly.
