The Mind That Was in Christ Jesus
A student of Christian Science, while working on a seemingly difficult problem, gained much help and encouragement from pondering the verse, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." She saw that the Mind of Christ includes all beautiful characteristics, such as love, gentleness, selflessness, patience, humility, forgiveness, purity, honesty, righteous activity, joy, and that these exclude the false beliefs of hatred, cruelty, selfishness, irritability, pride, resentment, impurity, dishonesty, grief, and the like; for there is "no space for evil to fill in a mind filled with goodness," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 210 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany."
It is helpful to take the verse under consideration as a daily watchword; for to have the Mind that was in Christ Jesus means to think rightly, and therefore to act rightly, at all times and under all circumstances. The healing of disease in Christian Science is always incidental to regeneration, which includes the reversing of all wrong thinking; for discord of every name and nature is but the externalization of wrong thoughts.
If one has been misunderstood, misjudged, and condemned, what is the attitude of thought that will correct the situation? Certainly resentment and self-pity will never do so. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us that "Love is the liberator" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 225); and so we need to realize that the real selfhood of the one who has misunderstood and misjudged us is the reflection of Love, and that Love's ideas cannot misunderstand or misjudge one another. If we hold steadfastly to the thought that Love's ideas are forever at-one with Love, the false sense of separation and misunderstanding will inevitably be healed, and mutual love and a happy relationship be restored. No matter what may be the problem with which one is confronted, there is always omnipotent good, infinite Love, with which to meet it; for the healing power of Truth and Love never ceases to be available in the affairs of mankind, and it is able to adjust every discordant condition.
