[Original testimony in Italian]
About seventeen years ago I found myself in a condition...
About seventeen years ago I found myself in a condition of being almost without hope, with a wife and two sons and an income of three dollars and twenty-five cents a week. The elder son was then about three years old, and had been so delicate since his birth that hope for his recovery had almost all gone. His mother, convalescing from a nervous trouble, had the verdict of the doctor that the only help which could be hoped for was through change from one climate to another, without hope of a permanent improvement. This verdict, at a moment of complete financial lack, was most discouraging. Moreover, I was in bondage to liquor and tobacco, so that the whole week's money was spent for these vices.
This was the state my family was in when a friend asked me to study Christian Science; and, although my understanding was limited, after two months' reading (without any other help) complete harmony was established: mother and son were well, and I was liberated from the passion for liquor and tobacco!
About that time, when preparing a bath for our elder child, my wife left the boiling water on the floor while she made some other preparations. As the elder son tried to keep the younger one away, he fell into the water himself, scalding himself so that there were blisters all over his body, except his chest. For a moment there was fear, but quickly we turned to God, using what we knew of Christian Science, and a practitioner was called. The accident occurred at about six o'clock in the afternoon, and the practitioner arrived about eight. The boy was much disfigured, a big blister all over his little body. The practitioner stayed less than an hour, when the boy was already calm, and at nine o'clock or a little after he went to sleep. He woke up in the morning without pain, and went to play with the neighboring boys. In two weeks all traces of the accident had vanished.
