So much of good has been manifested in my life since my first introduction to Christian Science that it is impossible to give more than a hint of the many ways in which my family and I have been blessed. We were first introduced to this religion quite a number of years ago, when I was a child of nine. I had spend the months from October until June in bed, under the constant care of physicians, because of leakage of the heart. I had been sentenced to a life of invalidism—if I lived at all; but the supposition was that I should pass on almost any time as a result of the least exertion or any undue excitement. At that dark time a friend of my mother suggested that we try Christian Science. Evidently we were not yet ready for the truth, for we rejected what we believed Christian Science to be, as an unknown kind of fanaticism.

The weary months dragged on, each day becoming darker and God seeming far away. At last, in June, our physician told us that he was leaving town on his vacation. He put me under the care of another physician, cautioned us to follow his rules carefully, and, if anything unusual came up, to send for him. Once more this same friend spoke to us of Christian Science in this way, "Now that everything else has failed, why not give God a chance?" This time my mother permitted Love to lead, and not long after she found herself in the presence of a Christian Science practitioner. It had been with considerable fear and doubt that she had gone to the practitioner's office, for the mesmerism of fear and faith in material ways and means had a strong hold, and she feared lest she lose what little hope was left. But so much tenderness, love, and confidence in the power of God, good, was expressed during that interview that when she came home her tears were dried, her fears stilled, and she was comforted and reassured.

Treatments were started for me at once, and an instantaneous healing was the result. After the first treatment I arose, dressed, and began to take up the activities of a normal child. Treatments were continued, however, for about three weeks, not for heart trouble, but for strength, confidence, understanding, and to still the opposition of other members of the family and of friends who were antagonistic toward what they supposed Christian Science to be.
