During my childhood I suffered quite frequently from a weak throat, experiencing bronchitis and tonsillitis. I underwent an operation on my throat and was told that I must have another later on. After I came into Christian Science, one of my first healings was that of a very severe case of diphtheria. At the time, my mother and I were visiting relatives in the country who were very antagonistic to what they believed Christian Science to be. Mother did her best to help me, but she had been interested in Science only a short time and her knowledge was very limited. My aunt came to my door to inquire how I was, and on seeing my condition she told my mother that I should not live through the night. I seemed to grow steadily worse. My mother, realizing that my throat was fast closing, sent a special delivery letter to a practitioner in a near-by city, and the next morning I was greatly improved. The second morning I was able to eat a hearty breakfast, consisting of biscuits and other solid foods, whereas before I had been unable to swallow even water without excruciating pain. I got up about noon of that day, dressed myself, and sat on the porch for a while. My complete recovery was rapid, much to the amazement of my relatives, excepting my mother, who had from the beginning trusted my life to God's care. It has now been about thirteen years since this healing took place, and I have never been troubled further with my throat, for this weakness was completely overcome.
I have experienced many other physical healings, one of an acute attack of appendicitis, which was entirely overcome in a very short time. I laid aside glasses some eleven years ago. The best physicians had said that I should never be without them, but rather should have their strength increased as I grew older and my sight became worse. This healing was accomplished as a result of my study of Christian Science without any specific treatment.
I am truly grateful for the knowledge I have of Christian Science and for the many, many blessings I have received through its study and application. It has been my only dependence for a number of years and has worked out many problems of mental, physical, and financial difficulty for me whenever I have turned to it for help.
