Spiritual Perception

As one learns to reason from the viewpoint of spiritual perception, "the dark visions of material sense" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 428) give way to the facts of Truth, and thought is proportionately guided into a true sense of health. The very words "spiritual perception" turn us to a new concept of sight, to that which is inorganic, and independent of age or accident. Perception is essentially a faculty of Mind, Spirit, and may be—indeed, must be—thus understood, just as are all other graces of Spirit.

Vision of the things of Spirit characterized all the beloved revelations of Scripture. Even in the dark ages of materiality and ignorance before the time of Jesus, there were those who were pure and unselfed enough to grasp at least a degree of Truth, and to inspire others around them with the brightness of their vision.

Such a seeker was the Preacher, who wrote, "Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions." In spite of striking evidence to the contrary, the Preacher was able to declare with unhesitating conviction this great truth about man. To-day, through the teachings and revelations of Christian Science, we are able to see that "now are we the sons of God," and therefore upright and perfect. Truth's sharp sword is operating in consciousness and destroying the mortal beliefs which throughout the ages have accumulated like barnacles, until the real man, spiritual and eternal, has been almost entirely lost to sight.
