Natal Witness
In your issue of May 23 appears an article entitled "Subconscious Mind Healing." The author, among other things, states that "the cures of Christian Science are traceable to mental suggestion." As this assertion requires correction, space in your columns is respectfully requested.
Such systems of so-called mental healing as mental suggestion, autosuggestion, or psychic healing, have nothing in common with the practice of Christian Science. These systems appear to have their origin in, and to derive their power from, the so-called human mind. They adhere to the belief that one human mind, acting upon or controlling another human mind, can produce at will certain results, either good or evil, on the human body or in human experience.
Jesus defined such practice as a "house divided against itself," which "shall not stand." Paul states that "the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." Christian Science, therefore, rejects the unenlightened human mind as a factor in its healing and redemptive work, and relies solely on the divine Mind, God, as the only true healing power; and it is this simple reliance on God which distinguishes Christian Science practice from all other methods of so-called mind healing.
