Righteous Lips
Anyone who has in some measure understood in Christian Science the import of Jesus' mission has inwardly vowed allegiance to his highest concept of God and man. Fidelity, devotion, and loyalty to the verities daily unfolding to his awakening consciousness win for the student an ever increasing ability to preserve his motives and speech in accordance with the Golden Rule, and to succeed in the practice of Christian Science. As he lifts thought Christward he gains the power to resist the temptations of the flesh, and joyously allies himself with all that is good and pure.
It is comparatively easy to talk the letter of Christian Science, but the test comes when, in contact with the world, the individual is faced with temptation; for then is the time to put into practice that which he has so readily affirmed. Perhaps he may be drawn into a maelstrom of destructive criticism of another, and in conversation express sentiments which are foreign to his best thought, and which are afterwards sorely regretted. Suggestion may pour into his thinking and threaten to obscure the truth he has loved to study and imbibe. At such moments the Christian Scientist needs to look to his defenses. He needs to be ever on the watch, and to strengthen and build up the weak places in his mental armor through prayer and consecration.
The lives of all who are faithfully following the truth are surely radiating God's abundant blessings to humanity, and all who are learning to be lights in the world by their right thinking are helping to extinguish the seeming causes of dissension and strife, and to establish in consciousness a higher, purer concept of man.
