My attention was first called to Christian Science by a neighbor who brought me a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel at a time when one of my children was sick. It did not interest me very much. But soon after this, when I had lost hope and energy and feared the man-made law of heredity, I went to the same neighbor for more information about this religion, and it was lovingly given.
For about a week I had help from a practitioner, and at the same time I made a visit away from home. There was an improvement in both my appetite and my sleeping. However, after coming home I gave the credit to the little visit which I had had. In a week or so I began to get into a rut, so to speak; so I got a bottle of tonic, but it did me no good. After this I went whole-heartedly to Christian Science for help, for I was beginning to enjoy the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. With the help of a practitioner hope was renewed, and much of fear, self-pity, self-condemnation, and conceit was purged from my consciousness, as I became more conscious of God, good. It gradually came to me that in reality I was spiritual and not material. By declaring that God is All-power and All-presence and clinging to good thoughts I was made happy, and had a greater love for humanity.
Christian Science came into my life about seventeen years ago, when the youngest of our six children was hardly a year old. For this I am grateful, since they, as well as my husband, are seeing that Christian Science is a religion that can be depended on in all conditions of life. While I am only a child myself in the understanding of this great Science, yet I know that it is invaluable, and that it is for all those seeking more satisfying standards of living. I am indeed grateful for the better understanding of God, and of man in His image and likeness, as found in Science and Health; for our churches; for our practitioners, and for class instruction.
