I am indeed grateful for Christian Science and for what...
I am indeed grateful for Christian Science and for what it has done for me. About eight years ago I became very ill. The local doctor did not seem to be able to do much for me except to ease my pains, and he finally said I had better go to a specialist for an examination. This I did. The specialist said that I had an internal cancer in its last stages, and that the only thing which would help was an operation. After I went to the hospital the doctors decided to use radium and X-ray treatments. After six weeks they pronounced me cured. I was better for eighteen months, then became ill with intestinal influenza, gallstones, and finally with cancer again. In another eighteen months I went back to the specialist. After I had made three trips he said there was no use for me to come again, for there was nothing more he could do. My local doctor had said he would give me only two months to live.
That night, after everyone had retired, I lay in bed making my plans for my departure from this world; but all the time I was praying to God to cleanse me and make me clean. About two o'clock in the morning I said to myself, or rather a "still small voice" said: Why do all this? No, I will take up Christian Science and get well. I turned over and went quietly to sleep.
The next morning I asked a friend who was a Christian Scientist to call during the day, as I wanted to talk with her. When she came I told her that I wanted to take up Christian Science. She said I would need a book called "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This I obtained the next day and began to read. I read the first chapter, on Prayer, through three times, as it seemed to soothe me, before I could read any farther. I knew very little about Christian Science, but I just went on reading. It was nearly a week before I got in touch with a practitioner and asked for help, which was lovingly given. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." It is almost five years since I took up the study of Christian Science. I am so grateful to say that I was healed not only of cancer, but of many other errors.
