On behalf of the Christian Scientists of this province, I should appreciate your correcting the erroneous impression conveyed in your report in to-night's Times as to our attitude towards the medical profession.

Christian Scientists are not fighting the medical profession, neither are they connected in any way with the chiropractors or the drugless healers, as your article would imply.

A doctor was correct in stating that the Christian Scientists should not come within the Medical Act, but failed to realize that this was the exact purpose of the amendment—to make clear that Christian Scientists cannot be held to be practicing medicine and surgery when they practice the religious tenets of their church. Section 68 of the Medical Act defines the practice of medicine and surgery in language so broad that those persons who practice the religious tenets of the Christian Science church might be deemed to be medical men practicing outside of the law. As the religious teachings of the Christian Science church exclude the use of drugs in its practice, there is no pretense that Christian Science is offered as medical treatment. Therefore it was essential to take the Christian Scientists out of the Medical Act to clarify their position as law-abiding citizens. The doctor referred to Christian Science as a cult and stated they should have an act of their own. Christian Science is more than a cult; it is a well-established religious organization, numbering among its members some of the most respected citizens in every community. The tenets of the Christian Science church are based on the teachings and works of Christ Jesus.
