Your anonymous correspondent takes exception to Christian Science...

Evening Citizen

Your anonymous correspondent takes exception to Christian Science testimonies because "Mrs. Eddy and God are thanked and praised for blessings received." Christ Jesus set the example of thanking God; and surely it is not unnatural to thank the one who has redirected us to His healing and so led to our blessing.

The next point raised is that "one might as well adopt Mr. Coué's method and formation of words as Mrs. Eddy's, and get the same result." Mrs. Eddy's teachings lead to the understanding of God; and it is this understanding which produces the results. Anything of the nature of a formula is forbidden in Christian Science.

Your correspondent's last accusation is that "Mrs. Eddy's religious teaching points out a way to evade carrying the cross of Jesus Christ." The reply to this is contained in the Christian Science textbook (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 178, 179), where Mrs. Eddy has written: "Whoever reaches the understanding of Christian Science in its proper signification will perform the sudden cures of which it is capable; but this can be done only by taking up the cross and following Christ in the daily life."
