With deep gratitude I shall tell of one of the many healings and blessings which I have received through the understanding and application of Christian Science.

Some years ago I visited a cousin who was sitting in a wheel chair. She always had to be helped in everything, as she could no longer walk. She had suffered from a severe form of sciatica for thirteen years. Everything had been tried; and, at a loss what to do further, she accepted her condition as necessary. I did not know anything about Christian Science then, and as my cousin told me that the trouble was hereditary in the family, I accepted it also, as if it were natural. We went on talking over the case that afternoon, and when I returned home I found that the thought of it pursued me and my consciousness was filled with it.

Some months later I awoke one morning with excessive pain and could not get up. The family doctor was called, and after treating me for some time told me that I had sciatica. Then I understood what Job had said: "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me." After I had tried nearly everything, a specialist was called, but even he did not bring relief. I was entirely bent down, and one hip bone stood out. By using crutches I could walk, but it cost me much pain and effort.
