Growing out of references to spiritual healing appearing...

Journal

Growing out of references to spiritual healing appearing in your columns of late, the following is respectfully submitted as pertinent, and as of general interest.

It is noted, for one thing, that a minister asserted that spiritual healing is "nonscriptural," and that such healing "did not extend beyond the disciples of Christ [Jesus]." Let us examine these statements.

By referring to Matthew 10:7, 8, it will be observed that the command to "preach" is indissolubly connected with that to "heal the sick." This injunction is also found in Luke 9:2, and elsewhere in the Gospels. Parenthetically, if the authority to heal the sick did not extend beyond the disciples' time, neither does the authority to preach the Word, since there is the same authority to heal the sick in the Christ-way as there is to preach the gospel. No more; no less!
