Your issue of February 13 contains a synopsis of a sermon...

Your issue of February 13 contains a synopsis of a sermon on the subject of Christian Science. The sermon is not really on Christian Science, but on what our reverend critic imagines it to be; which is quite different from what it really is. Christian Science was not the outcome of the new-thought movement in America, as he avers. Mrs. Eddy is the acknowledged Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. It is Christian because it is based on the teachings and practice of Christ Jesus. It is scientific because it is founded on the divine Principle of those teachings, and may be demonstrated according to spiritual law.

Our critic says, "Nevertheless, there was no claim which Christian Science made which could not be made with equal grounds by the orthodox Christian church." There is, however, a great difference between claiming and doing. James said, "Shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." The Christian Science church is the only church to-day which is healing the sick and reforming the sinner by the spiritual method of Christ Jesus.

With regard to the Tenets of Christian Science, these are to be found on page 497 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and on pages 15 and 16 of the Church Manual. They are neither "rambling" nor "contradictory." There is not a conclusion in Science and Health which is not correctly drawn from the premise that God is infinite Spirit, and that the universe including man is His infinite spiritual manifestation.
