It is with a deep sense of grateful joy that I testify to the healing and regenerating power of divine Truth as taught in Christian Science. I did not come to this study for physical healing, but through the need for a religion which could satisfy both my husband and myself. None of the denominations in which we had been brought up was satisfying. For many years I suffered from this lack of religious basis in our married life; and in the secret of my heart I prayed God to light our path. We suffered also from a lack of cohesion and harmony in our business, which was far from being successful.
Then, at a moment when everything seemed to abandon us and we did not know which way to turn, Christian Science was again called to my attention by loving friends who had already spoken to me about it, and had sent the French Herald for some time. I used to read this literature sometimes, but the theories seemed quite incomprehensible to me, because I thought that the time of miracles had passed. But this time I heard the call, and went to the next Christian Science testimony meeting. What I heard at this meeting made a great impression on me, as did also the sincerity and joy expressed by the people there. The desire to know more was awakened, and the following Sunday when I went to the service, my husband spontaneously offered to accompany me. During this service I felt that God had opened a new way for us.
I started to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At once I loved this book for the logic of its text, and this reading gave me hope and a great peace. Doubt and fear of the morrow, which were a heavy burden, vanished and I felt free and joyous. I shall never forget the joy of the first rays of light. It was wonderful after such a long period of darkness.
