It is with great gratitude that I give my testimony of what Christian Science has done for me. It has given me life instead of death, joy instead of sorrow, love instead of hate. Ten years and a half ago, according to a doctor's report, I was passing through "the valley of the shadow," suffering from a very severe nervous breakdown and other complications. The doctor said there was very little hope for me on account of my age. He had been attending me for a month, so my family called in another physician, but he gave the same verdict.
A friend who came to see me lent me a Christian Science Sentinel. After reading it I was amazed to see what God had done. I knew that He was "no respecter of persons" and felt sure He would do the same for me; in fact, I felt my hope revive. I had touched the hem of the Christ-garment! I thanked the physician for his kindness and told him I should not require him any longer. He looked at me in surprise and said, "One thing about you, you have not lost hope." I assured him that it had been revived. At the end of three weeks I was able to be taken out for a short walk; day by day I felt my strength coming back, and at the end of six weeks I was able to walk alone. I went to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting, feeling very infirm and with a severe pain behind the ear; but, thank God, that was destroyed during the service.
From that time on Christian Science has been my only Comforter. I have had much to overcome, but Christ, Truth, has been by my side all the way. I should like to express my gratitude to God, to our beloved Leader for giving us the "key" to the Scriptures, and to the practitioners for their help many times. In my family a poisoned leg, constipation, rupture, and many other ailments have been healed. I thank God also for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction from a loyal teacher. Divine Love never fails. My prayer to God is that I may prove myself a loyal student of our beautiful truth.—(Mrs.) Annie Ashford, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.
