Ord Observer
On account of some recent comment at Ord on the subject of spiritual healing, I ask your kind consideration for this noncontroversial explanation of the difference between Christian Science and every other so-called mental method of healing.
According to the Bible, Christ Jesus healed the sick and cleansed the sinful by one and the same means, namely, by the reflection of divine Mind, or God. The thought and life of the Master were so spiritual, that is, so free from materiality, as to be an unobstructed channel for the manifestation of the power of the divine Spirit, which Christians call God. True spirituality proceeds from God; hence Jesus said to Philip, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father;" and he also said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." These and numerous other Biblical citations show that whoever possesses true spirituality, which often is referred to as the spirit of Christ, will in any age express the same divine power, Life, and presence as did Christ Jesus, and in proportion to his own understanding and purity. Genuine spirituality overcomes both sin and disease, and the power which Jesus expressed was not bestowed on him exclusively and has not changed. This spiritual purgation through Christ, Truth, is Christian Science healing. It is the harmonious action of the divine Mind, or Spirit, in opposition to any other so-called mental activity; and the results are good.
Christian Science shows conclusively that attempts to heal by what commonly are known as faith cures, therapeutic suggestion, and so on, are unsupported by divine power. They are but the action of the so-called human mind, and often are used as instruments for evil; and their seeming good or bad effects are purely hypnotic and therefore injurious. Intelligent analysis of all such nonspiritual methods shows that they are based on blind faith and not on correct understanding of God, that invariably they do not distinguish between matter and Spirit, and consequently are virtually wholly material.
