[Written Especially for Young People]
Epistles of Love
We write letters to our friends, and enjoy receiving letters from them. Perhaps we like best those letters which really share the good things our friends are enjoying. Sometimes we find a letter so like the sender that we feel as if we have actually been face to face with our friend. Sometimes, too, thoughts and experiences are expressed that help us to know our friends better than we did before.
We write letters; but do we ever think of ourselves as a letter—a letter from divine Love? Paul wrote to the Christians whom he had taught at Corinth: "Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God." The word "epistle" means letter, so Paul told the little band at Corinth that they were letters to be read by all—by their brothers and sisters and parents and neighbors, even by those they met in public places, whose names they might not know.
How eagerly we read the letters we receive from home or friends! So it is that on every hand are those who love or long to hear from God. We cannot tell how much it may mean to them if we, as "letters," do our part in bearing Love's message—in our home, at school, in games and fun, in Sunday school classes and in public places.
