[Written for the Sentinel]

Our Homeland

"For now we see through a glass, darkly."—I Corinthians 13:12.

A fair and unknown country lies before,
One which our mortal feet can ne'er explore.
In this fair kingdom is no sad to-morrow,
No lowering skies, no sickness, sin, or sorrow—
Before us like a beacon shining bright
A pillar of cloud by day, of fire by night,
Our Way-shower leads us on, that all may know
The narrow way by which his footsteps go.

Truth, Love, and Life provide the golden key
That opens wide the gate so all may see
Through mists of earth as through a worn glass dim
The shining pathway leading up to Him.
If you would this bright, glorious land attain,
Leaving behind all sense of fear and pain,
Take up thy cross and daily, hourly find
Thy perfect pattern in the perfect Mind.
