I began the study of Christian Science to gain freedom...
I began the study of Christian Science to gain freedom from a nervous condition which affected my breathing. Many physicians, although most loving, were unable to give me relief. After coming into Christian Science I had faithful work done for me by a number of practitioners over quite a period of time, without any apparent lessening of the condition. It finally appeared as though the problem were entirely mine to solve. I became very much interested in the study of God's law and found it much easier to bear this discord with only a slight understanding of the truth.
During this time I had many other healings and proofs of His loving care. After about five years, when I was troubled with a sense of confusion and excitement, a practitioner pointed out that I did not have to be in a breathless state of mind. I began to realize that as long as my consciousness was filled with quietness and peace I could breathe normally, and that only excited and confused thinking interfered with my sense of right, harmonious activity. The erroneous condition gradually disappeared.
These protracted healings seemed to fulfill the words of the prophet Habakkuk, "The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." I am deeply grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who through her consecrated effort has brought this truth to human consciousness.
