Spiritual Gravitation

To the observant, it is evident that there is an increasing conviction among thinkers in general that life is in reality mental, not material; that real experiences, and the things that truly count, occur in the realm of thought. To put it somewhat differently, it is evident that many are coming into line with Mrs. Eddy's statement in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."

This liberating conviction helps thought to free itself from the fetters of belief in material time and space, and to pass beyond finite sense into the realm of infinite Mind. As a result, the human mind, so called, experiences greater freedom, and in every direction human activity is increased and extended.

In the testimonies of healing through Christian Science, gratitude is often expressed for "spiritual uplifting." Said the Psalmist, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." There is a great depth of wisdom in this exalted desire. One commentator renders this passage as follows: "Shall I lift up mine eyes to the hills? Whence should my help come?" There can be but one self-evident answer. Our help comes from God. This upward tendency of thought instructed in contrast with the pessimism and downward trend of material thinking, is remarked by many.
