Morning Prayer

After declaring that God alone made him dwell in safety through the night, the Psalmist was ready to give voice to his thanksgiving in the morning. In the fifth psalm we read, "My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."

Many times in the morning, when the sun's first rays tip the clouds with silver and rose, all nature seems to be singing a hymn of thanksgiving and praise. The birds call to one another and carol their sweetest songs; the trees gently stir in the morning breeze. In the increasing light the flowers take on more beauty. The dew on the grass sparkles with all the colors of the rainbow, and each and every thing speaks of Love and protection.

What a wonderful duty and privilege, at the dawn of a material day, to give voice to our thanksgiving for protection and safety through the night; but how much more, at each dawning of our spiritual day, when we begin to see the light of omnipotent Love breaking through the dark clouds of fear, doubt, and despair, should we give thanks to God!
