Previous to seventeen years of illness, and what seemed...
Previous to seventeen years of illness, and what seemed to be hopeless invalidism, I was pastor of a church in southern Indiana. For ten years I suffered from ailments that did not yield to any material treatment. Obtaining some relief from a nonmedical source, I was able for a few years to do some work, ever conscious, however, that the long-wished-for goal of health and strength had not been attained. Then the crash came which resulted in seven more years of servitude to what my medical advisers called angina pectoris, neuritis, chronic catarrh of the throat, and partial paralysis. Having tried almost every kind of material remedy that I had heard or read of, I felt that I was gradually reaching the end. Notwithstanding my own theological prejudices and the skepticism of dear friends, I at last turned to Christian Science for what it had to offer in the way of relief. Through the aid of a kind practitioner and honest study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, when my prejudices were dispelled, I was healed. My joy was unbounded. Peace, rest, and gratitude filled my consciousness. For the thirteen years since my healing I have been very happy. I have a richer and far more satisfactory Christian experience than I had previously known. I shall everlastingly be indebted to Mrs. Eddy for blazing the way, and to God, who "doeth the works."
John H. Neher, Marion, Indiana.
It is with great pleasure that I verify my husband's testimony. From proofs that I had of God's healing power I began the study of Christian Science, which resulted in a better understanding of God as Truth and Love. I have had many healings, some of them instantaneous. Eight years have gone by since the study began, and God has been my only physician in that time.
