Our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has cautioned us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 172) to keep our "demonstrations modest," and I wish to be obedient. Also, I hope that this testimony will encourage others to remember her inspired words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 174), "Nothing save divine power is capable of doing so much for man as he can do for himself." This last statement was proved to me when I found myself one morning quite suddenly, and apparently without adequate cause, unsteady on my feet; in fact I was obliged to take hold of the furniture to avoid falling to the floor. To myself it appeared to be a case of great weakness. People about me used a word of more fearsome meaning than weakness; but I turned to God for aid at once, and my forty years of study and practice of the teachings of Christian Science proved not to have been in vain. During all that day my faith never wavered, although I was unable to get in touch with the practitioner who had helped me at other times, until nine thirty in the evening. I had her faithful and loving help for ten days, and was then able to take up the work myself as I had been taught to do by a loyal teacher.

In the home where I dwell there is only one other student of Christian Science, and this dear friend was a faithful helper, reading to me each day the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly and also other Christian Science literature. She witnessed the steady improvement that first day, and knew thereby that "one with God is a majority." She and other friends read the Lesson-Sermon daily until I had strength to do it myself. This daily reading I found one of my greatest blessings, although many other evidences of tender love towards me from my kindred were apparent to all; indeed, it seemed that God was pouring out blessings to me continually. I pray I may be given grace to be duly thankful to Him, for His angels encamped about me.

Just previous to and during this experience I had been filled with the joy of God's ever-presence as declared in many Bible verses, and I know it was this consciousness that enabled me to turn with such assurance to God that my improvement could not fail to follow from the first recognition of the need to work with Him as He bids us do.
