In your What Do You Think? column of January 12 there are references to Christian Science in the letters of two writers, regarding which I would appreciate the privilege of making a brief comment.

One writer assert that the occultism exposed by Dr. H. Dana Abbott is the basis of Christian Science, and the other writer asserts that it is based on the East Indianism of Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga.

According to Webster's Dictionary the word "occultism" means "belief in hidden or mysterious powers and the possibility of subjecting them to human control." The same definition applies quite generally to the many doctrines of East Indianism. As a matter of fact, Christian Science is a Christian religion and bases its teachings on the inspired Word of the Bible. Christian Scientists accept Christ Jesus as their Saviour, his crucifixion and resurrection as facts, his words as inspired and divine, his works as practical guides in Christian activity to-day, and his life as ideal.
