Christian Science was presented to me about fourteen...
Christian Science was presented to me about fourteen years ago by a faithful student. I had never heard of it before. I had been under the care of two doctors for several years, but they completely failed in all their kind attempts to relieve me; whereupon I found myself a mental and physical wreck, at times scarcely able to walk across the room. With the words, "I think you are seeking God," I was handed a little pamphlet published in those days by The Christian Science Publishing Society. A member of my family advised me not to read it, but when alone during the night I read it. I remember afterwards jumping out of bed, so great was my joy and freedom, turning out the light and having my first night of quiet rest for over two years.
The next morning I did not seem to have any garments which were good enough for me to wear, but I put on the best I had and joyfully went downstairs—well and happy. On seeing me, a member of my family became so frightened that she ran into the pantry and shut herself in, until I went to her and told her something about the God who is Love every moment of the time, and about whom I had read during the night. She came out and, of course, rejoiced with me; and since that time we have been rejoicing more and more in the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It has been my privilege to see all the other members of my family and many friends come to an understanding of the truth as taught in Christian Science.
The main point, however, is the fact that while I was restored instantaneously through the reading of the aforementioned pamphlet, I did not understand how the healing came about until I began the study of the Bible together with Science and Health and Mrs. Eddy's other writings. Surely God "never faileth."—
