"A wise and an understanding heart"

In I Kings we read that "the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and . . . said, Ask what I shall give thee." Solomon besought not the Lord for long life for him-self, nor for riches, but for "an understanding heart." His petition "pleased the Lord," and God gave him what he desired.

Every faithful student of Christian Science desires to know what true obedience is, and longs to find true wisdom, which is "more precious than rubies." Webster defines "wisdom" in part as "knowledge with capacity to use it." Christian Science teaches us wisdom and true knowledge are identical.

The Bible says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments." Mrs. Eddy writes in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 359): "Men give counsel; but they give not the wisdom to profit by it. To ask wisdom of God, is the beginning of wisdom."
