The columns of your paper recently quoted a statement...

Daily News,

The columns of your paper recently quoted a statement by an evangelist which gave a wrong impression about Christian Science. She said that "divine healing is not Christian Science or mental healing, but it is the direct power of God upon the human body." This statement with all fairness might be construed to read: Divine healing or Christian Science is not mental healing, but is the direct power of God upon the human body.

It is true that Mind heals in Christian Science; but this word "Mind," which is spelled with a capital "M," means God, who is described in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder (p. 587), as "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."

Jesus so understood God. He said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." God, Mind, is constantly imparting this truth about Himself and His creation, man and the universe. Jesus was ever conscious of this truth, and it was this truth and not the personal Jesus that healed. The humble Nazarene constantly turned his hearers away from his personality in this fashion: "I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things."
