I was on a business trip, about five hundred miles from home, and was quite concerned about my wife who, the doctors had said, would have to undergo an operation. There was no hurry, they said, but it would have to be done sometime. Then I received a letter from her asking me to go to a Christian Science Reading Room. In my next letter I inquired if she believed in that sort of thing. "Yes," the reply came; "I am healed." Then I called at a Reading Room, and the attendant pointed out the place where there was a Bible and a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Both were strange to me. I had not read newspapers, except the headlines, for several weeks, owing to a belief of inherited nearsightedness, which was very close to blindness. To my surprise I could read the textbook; and then I looked at the Bible, and found I could also read it easily. I learned later that while treatment had been given my wife, my condition had also been taken into account. In about three weeks I arrived home to find it true that my wife was healed. To my surprise I saw colors for the first time in my life. Before, all had been light and shade. From the darkest materiality I have come into the light of Truth, and the truth has been a wonderful protection. With the aid of practitioners, influenza, blood poisoning, and toothache have been quickly healed. A sense of health is now mine. I find also that I have a greater capacity for solving engineering problems.

Elmer E. Van Wie, Palo Alto, California.

My husband's testimony recounts only a small part of the healings and benefits we have received from Christian Science. My landlady told me I could be healed in Christian Science, and I was healed by one absent treatment of a very serious trouble. Eczema in its worst form, after nearly twenty years of doctoring with material means, was healed within two weeks by absent treatment, without leaving any scars. An anæamic condition and a chronic cough yielded more slowly. From a semi-invalid I have become strong; and I am grateful indeed for the loving help of the practitioners and friends who were so kind to me. I am grateful to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving us the truth about God and man, and for making it possible to continue in the path from sense to Soul, by establishing churches, Reading Rooms, and periodicals.—(Mrs.) Lena B. Van Wie.
