The Ever-Presence of God

"God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence." A clear comprehension of this profound statement of Christian Science, found on page 471 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, offers to mankind surcease from the bondage of materiality with its constituents of want and woe, false pleasures and hopes, which seem to material sense so real.

Throughout her inspired writings our Leader elucidates the fact of God's allness; and in accordance with this fundamental teaching, the human consciousness is being freed from the mesmeric belief of a power and presence opposed to God, good. Through spiritual discernment the student of Christian Science attains the true concept of Life, and this cognitive power enables one to rise above false sense testimony.

Mortal mind, so called, is ever giving power to error; and oftentimes fear would seem to govern and to nullify God's eternal law of good. Christian Science refutes the argument of error with spiritual understanding. One student holds in grateful remembrance an experience which brought to her consciousness a glimpse of the truth which Jesus taught would make us free. At a moment when there seemed to be imminent danger from a severe wind-storm, a sense of fear was overcome through the realization of the ever-presence of God. With sudden conviction came the thought that Christian Scientists should not accept storms as real. Then there came to thought the words from I Kings, "The Lord was not in the wind." As the student caught their message she was greatly comforted. Since God was All-power and All-presence, and since God "was not in the wind," the wind could have no power to injure or destroy. Fear was lessened; a great sense of peace prevailed; the wind ceased, "and there was a great calm."
