Liberation from the illusion of sickness and sin came to me through the efficacy of Christian Science; also the acquisition of a higher spiritual understanding of Deity,—of Life, Truth, Love,—since I first took up this study in the year 1924. At that time I was in the grasp of a very stubborn case of rheumatism, from which freedom seemed impossible. For several years I had suffered from this error, which material remedies failed to check. The future looked dismal and hopeless. One day my sister advised me to seek relief in Christian Science. She told me to give God the opportunity—God, "who healeth all thy diseases." In my extremity I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, which was lovingly given; and when the truth about divine Love and His spiritual idea, man, was lovingly and beautifully elucidated to me by the kind practitioner, it began to revolutionize my thinking. It awakened me somewhat from the mortal dream and began to transform me into new life; and it is daily—yea, hourly—leading me nearer the heavenly gates. I visited the practitioner once a week, and after ten visits I was healed. Later on I had a slight return of this malady; but it was soon dispelled by the power of divine Love.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says on page 135, "This is 'the beauty of holiness,' that when Truth heals the sick, it casts out evils, and when Truth casts out the evil called disease, it heals the sick." This was amply proved by the destruction of evil habits, to some of which I had clung for over forty years, namely, the craving for alcoholic stimulants, gambling, smoking, and profanity. These errors vanished at the time I was being treated for rheumatism. I was under the impression that I could not exist without these things; but after the annihilation of them by Truth, I plainly saw that God is good and desire for them never took hold of me again. I also experienced deafness, with constant noises in my ears. This was healed after about two years. I could not walk one block without stopping two or three times, from a belief of pressure in the region of the heart. This error lasted about three months before it was healed. I suffered from liver complaint. Dark clouds would roll before my eyes, and I could see very little. It would be about half an hour before I could resume my work. This also was healed in Christian Science; and many minor ailments which presented themselves from time to time also vanished. By knowing the truth concerning their unreality, I was healed through the power of God. The unloving thoughts suggested by mortal mind (so called) that are detrimental to health and harmony, are gradually being denied admission, and spiritual thoughts are taking their place in my consciousness.

My gratitude verbally expressed for these wonderful healings is not sufficient; I must scatter kindness and love, thus proving by my deeds that man reflects the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus." I am indeed very grateful to God for all the good He has bestowed on me through the channel of Christian Science, and for the mental, moral, and physical regeneration which has resulted from its study and practice. I am profoundly grateful to the Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for spreading the gospel of primitive Christianity. I am very grateful to the loving practitioner for the kind help given me on my way from sense to Soul. I am also very grateful for the Christian Science literature; the lectures; the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly, which are of inestimable value to one's unfoldment in the study of Christian Science. I am deeply grateful for membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and in The Mother Church.
