Among the Churches

Current Notes

Berkeley Gazette.

Berkeley, California (First Church).—To complete the church group of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Berkeley, at Dwight Way and Bowditch Street, a new structure to house the large and growing Sunday schools is under construction. Especially fine is the interior. The new structure promises to give the children the same atmosphere for their service that they have enjoyed in the church. Added to this will be the convenience of class alcoves, assembly seating arrangement, and special utility rooms. The style is a composite of elements of early Christian and Gothic forms and decorations, all adapted in a thoroughly modern manner. The structure of timber and concrete is exposed within and without, and is the basis of the decoration, there being no plaster or stucco. Rich insets of Gothic tracery will be used, decorated in gold and full colors. The roof will be covered with tiles. Between the two buildings will be an attractive garden court.—Berkeley Gazette.
