Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. Over twelve years ago I went to a large city, presumably to take a course of study, but in reality to break away from old church ties and invertigate Christian Science.

All my life had been spent in active work with an orthodox church, and I had found much joy in it until a very difficult position, surrounded by depression and illness, had left me broken down physically, mentally despondent, and suffering from eyestrain. Repeated efforts to find comfort in my church and healing in medicine left me with no confidence in either. I did not want a God who allowed His children to suffer. But I had heard of Christian Science and wanted to know more about it; so this first Sunday in a strange city found me in a Christian Science church. The service meant nothing to me but a quiet hour in which to think of my troubles; but I returned the next week and was happier. I knew nothing of Reading Rooms or Wednesday evening testimony meetings, and it was several weeks before I was alert enough to catch the announcements from the desk. But one Wednesday night a testimony on the healing of eyestrain was given. This was what I had been longing to hear, and I pondered on it all the way home. As I neared the corner, it came to me so clearly that what God had done for one of His children He was ready and eager to do for all, that I took off my glasses and threw them down the alley.

The next day mortal mind tried to make me miss those glasses, as they had been put on with the belief that they were never to be removed if blindness was to be evaded. Three days and nights of suffering ensued, but a practitioner was called and peace came the third night. Perfect freedom was manifested at once, and the healing has been permanent.
