I wish to thank God for a healing I experienced recently
I wish to thank God for a healing I experienced recently. I was under medical treatment four years for tuberculosis of the lungs. I spent several weeks every year in a sanitarium, always hoping for improvement, but the disease grew worse year by year. A year ago last fall my condition was such that I was to go away again for the winter. Just before Christmas my attention was called to Christian Science; but I could not believe in it, because I had full confidence in the doctors.
The day after Christmas I went to a sanitarium. I had been there eight weeks, and still there were no signs of improvement. The condition of the lungs was the same, and I had scarcely gained in weight. It happened that my roommate went home, and someone else took her place. The very first evening of our acquaintance the question was put to me for the second time: "Have you ever heard anything about Christian Science?" The thought came to me that I would investigate the subject, so I wrote to Elberfeld and asked for literature, which was willingly sent me. I also received the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. During the time spent in the open air and in the evening I read diligently, and my condition improved perceptibly. After three months, when I went to be examined, the result was that a surprisingly rapid improvement had taken place.
I was to remain there four months. I continued to improve, and so I gladly went for the last examination. The doctor was very well satisfied, but when I ventured to ask if there were any hope that I should recover completely, he answered, "You will never be quite well again." Extremely depressed I returned to my room, but I picked up a copy of Der Herold der Christian Science and began to study it, and while I read the thought came to me that I should recover entirely.
