For seventeen years, like the woman we read of in the Bible who touched our Lord's garment, I was troubled with a very ugly symptom, which seemed to alarm each new doctor I visited, and none of them (including some of the best known surgeons in England) could find the root of the trouble. Eventually it was seen to be a growth in the bladder, and a serious operation was performed and the growth removed. However, matters got worse instead of better, with dreadful pains in addition. After nearly two years I was placed under the X-ray, but nothing could be ascertained, and all the surgeons could say was that they could do no more for me; but of one thing they were certain, and that was that I could never return to India, where my husband, who was in the Indian army, was stationed.
We had heard of Christian Science before, and I was sure it was the truth, but I had submitted to the operation because my people were antagonistic to Christian Science. After this my husband proposed that we should inquire about Christian Science, so we went to the only Reading Room we knew of in London, and were given the name of a practitioner, who, when called on, at once said that "with God all things are possible," but advised me not to go at once to India with my husband, but to follow a few months later.
As soon as the work in Christian Science was started the pains vanished, and, one morning six months later, after I had gone back to India, the ugly symptom disappeared. This occurred after I had worked successfully in Christian Science for the life of a pony that was apparently dying from colic and seemingly beyond help according to veterinary laws.
